Frequently asked questions
What should I include when I write?
The iPhone model, the iOS version and the AnchorGood version (Settings → bottom of the page). If an alarm did or did not go off, the time and what you saw help most. Do not send passwords. AnchorGood is not an emergency service: at sea, call the coast guard (VHF channel 16 or your local emergency number).
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 15.1 or later (version 1.0 is made for iPhone). Location: Always, with Precise Location on. Notifications and Time Sensitive notifications allowed.
How do I get started?
Open AnchorGood and accept the safety notice. Allow location Always and notifications when asked. Use Settings → Test my alarm to check that it is loud. Then Watch tab → Drop anchor → follow the 5 steps → I understand — arm watch.
What should I do before every night at anchor?
Keep the phone charging. Do not swipe AnchorGood away in the app switcher. Location must stay on Always. Switch silent mode off and turn the volume up: with the screen locked, the alarm sounds through notifications, and in silent mode these only vibrate. Run Test my alarm.
Does it work with the screen locked or without internet?
Yes. With the screen locked or another app open, the watch keeps running and the alarm sounds. Without internet the alarm works normally; only the weather may be out of date.
How do silent mode, volume and Focus affect the alarm?
With AnchorGood open on screen the alarm sounds even in silent mode. With the screen locked or in the background, in silent mode the alarm only vibrates: keep silent mode off and the volume up. Alarms are sent as Time Sensitive notifications; they get through Focus only if Time Sensitive notifications are allowed for AnchorGood.
What happens if I swipe AnchorGood away?
The watch stops and no alarm can sound. The phone shows "Anchor watch STOPPED" within about a minute. If the location permission is removed or Location Services are off, you get a GPS LOST alarm after about 45 seconds while the app is open. If the phone is switched off or the battery is empty, nothing can warn you and nobody else is told.
The alarm did not sound.
Check that Location is Always and Precise, notifications are allowed, silent mode was off and the volume up, the app was not swiped away, and the phone had battery.
Does it send messages automatically?
No. From the alarm screen you can call, text, WhatsApp or e-mail your safety contacts in one tap. You send the message.
Does it need an account or a subscription?
No. There is no account, nothing to buy and no advertising.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
Only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes it. Detailed tracks of old watches are deleted automatically after the history period you choose in Settings (14 days by default).
Why "Always" location?
Without it, iOS stops the watch when the screen locks.
Can I turn off the sea-mark layer?
Yes, in the map layers. When it is on, the map tiles for the area on screen are downloaded from OpenSeaMap.
